The Building Environmental Systems and Control unit has been revised to reduce duplication of Learning Material content. Topics from Heating Systems and Air Conditioning (in Edition 2.5) have been amalgamated into this new unit.
The Building Environmental Systems and Control unit has been revised to reduce duplication of Learning Material content. Topics from Heating Systems and Air Conditioning (in Edition 2.5) have been amalgamated into this new unit.
The Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) has been revised to reduce duplication of Learning Material content. Topics from Heating Systems (in Edition 2.5) have been amalgamated into this new HVAC unit.
Addressing Refrigeration basics, this unit has been reduced in size. This was due to moving existing content to other units, such as:
Absorption Refrigeration has been added to this unit in Edition 3.
The existing Learning Material content from Edition 2.5 has been updated and re-organized. The term Sanitary Drainage has been replaced with Plant Drainage throughout the unit. Content on Hot Water Heaters has been moved from the Drainage chapter into the chapter on Water Supply.
The Learning Material content for Prime Movers has been updated. Out-of-date content has been removed and historical information reduced in size, in an effort to streamline the new Learning Material content.
The Water Treatment unit has been moved to Part B and incorporates Cooling Towers, Heating Systems, and Air Conditioning. New Learning Material content has been added for:
The Boiler Maintenance unit from Edition 2.5 has been re-organized into 4 chapters. Renamed to Maintenance, this unit covers Power and Heating Plant maintenance.
In addition to the re-organization and title change, Learning Material content within the unit has been updated.
The Plant Operation unit is a brand new unit created for 4th Class Edition 3.0. This unit amalgamates all learning material content relating to the Operation of Boilers, Plants, and Systems into one unit.
The 5th Class textbooks are being updated to Edition 3.2 which will be available Summer 2017. Changes to the 5th Class textbook include:
The Boiler Safety Devices unit is a brand new unit created for 4th Class Edition 3.0. This unit amalgamates the Safety Device learning material content from the Power and Heating boiler units into one unit.
The Pumps and Compressors unit is being introduced earlier in comparison to the Edition 2.5 textbooks. Learning material content for Compressors will now include all compressor theory. This change removes basic compression theory from the Refrigeration unit; however specific information relating to Refrigeration will remain in that unit.
The Pumps and Compressors unit can be found as Unit 2 in Part B of the new 4th Class Edition 3 textbook.
The Lubrication unit is being introduced earlier in comparison to the Edition 2.5 textbooks. Additional information has been added to incorporate Bearings into this unit.
In an effort to reflect these changes, the unit title has been updated with chapters titles also revised accordingly. The Lubrication and Bearings unit can be found as Unit 1 in Part B of the new 4th Class Edition 3 textbook.
The new Boiler Systems unit has been created to incorporate all boiler systems material into one unit. This unit includes:
Introduction to Boiler Designs will now include all Boiler types, designs, and construction:
Special chapters will address Power specific boilers, Heating specific boilers, and other boiler types. Greater emphasis will be placed on how the boilers are classified by ASME codes.
The Fundamental Industrial Communication Skills unit has several new additions and changes including:
Written communications will include:
Instrumentation Basics has been consolidated into a new Instrumentation section and removed from disparate sections such as Boilers, Heating Systems, and Air Conditioning. How Instrumentation is presented in each of these sections now allows for content delivery without the need to cover Instrumentation Basics.
The Electricity unit has been renamed to Basic Concepts in Electrotechnology and moved to Part A. IPECC has made no change to the curriculum, however, the learning material content has been re-authored to conform to the new 4th Class layout and to enhance the delivery of this important topic.
Piping and Valves has been updated to Introductory Fluid Handling Technology, and now encompasses the Piping, Steam Traps, Water Hammer, and Valve topics. Content within this unit has been reviewed and updated. The vocabulary that is new to learners is now included in the PG Glossary at the end of each unit.
The Welding unit has been separated into three separate chapters:
The Environment chapter has been streamlined to emphasize how Power Engineers can have an effect on the environment when operating equipment.
